Rydin Wedding Highlights - Austin, TX

In my eight years of filming weddings, I can honestly say that I’ve never had a wedding experience quite like Eric and Manon’s! The first, and most obvious reason, is that they wanted their ENTIRE wedding shot on Super 8 film. Normally I would only shoot a couple of rolls on a wedding day, but knowing that this was the primary medium for capturing the day, we decided to go big (I went through 18 rolls of film in one day!).

The second reason is that Eric and Manon’s day was so intimate and personal in a way that I’ve never seen before. They rented a stunning house off of Lake Austin for thirteen of their closest friends and family to spend a weekend of celebration, with incredible food and ten course meals provided by Chef Danny Kievit, and wine pairings chosen by the groom (who happens to be a fantastic sommelier!). The entire weekend centered around just being together and experiencing each other’s presence, taking in some of the best things life has to offer.

But the highlight of it all was the way that Eric and Manon’s friends and family made me and the other vendors feel right at home, as though we were also guests at this fabulous party. Maybe it was the sound of the Super 8 camera that made people feel so comfortable in approaching me, but I spent most of the day talking with and making friends with everyone in attendance. I spent time with the chef, the coordinator, the servers, drinking the leftover wine and being made to feel like I was part of the celebration. It was a truly one of a kind experience, and one that I'm so grateful that I got to be a part of. Congrats to the Rydins!

Gerber Wedding Highlights - Fort Collins, CO

I was recently listening to a podcast that was talking about choosing a theme when editing a wedding video. I realized that without thinking about it, this was something I was already doing. I often look at my couples and their day, their story, the things that brought them to that point, and there’s something about them that drives the story of their video. For Nichol and Jonathan, as I was thinking about the theme of their wedding day, it came to mind so quickly and easily that their theme was “redemption”. It took so many events in both Jonathan and Nichol’s lives in order for them to find each other, and God used a painful past and brought it about for good in both of their lives.

With that in mind, I wanted their video to display not only their story, but the majesty and goodness of God. That nothing, from the highest heights of the mountains to the deepest depths of the ocean, could separate them from the love of God. Nichol and Jonathan are from all over - Nichol from Florida, Jonathan from Texas. They met and fell in love in the Bay Area, were engaged in Oregon, got married in the foothills of Colorado, and now live together in Phoenix. While thinking about this idea of God’s love, I remembered some ocean footage I had once shot while in Napa/San Francisco years ago. This felt so fitting to incorporate some footage from the place where they met and fell in love and held such significance for them. And even though it was from an entirely different state, it perfectly matched the footage from their engagement at Cannon Beach in Oregon (another place I’ve been to but sadly didn’t have any footage from). On top of all of this, I also had a bunch of gorgeous golden hour footage and a mountain timelapse from traveling all across Colorado over the years. Footage I had shot for fun with no purpose in mind, but somehow in the most perfect God ordained way, it fit this video for this moment.

I’m sure there are a ton of details I would do differently in being able to shoot and edit this video, but getting to use this collection of moments from my own travels that I had filmed with no intention behind them, and then seeing how God was able to use them years later to represent something else entirely made creating this video such an incredible experience for me. I hope this video serves as a reminder to them of God’s goodness for years and years to come. Congrats to the Gerbers!
